Our commitment to sustainable practices

When it comes to winemaking, we see our vineyard as part of a larger ecosystem, not just a plot of land to grow grapes. Our commitment goes beyond adhering to a single certification; it’s about making the most environmentally friendly choices for the health of our vines, our land, and our community, every single day.

Our philosophy: adaptive farming

Our winemaking philosophy is often compared to the way we live our own lives: we do everything possible to eat healthy, live healthy, and support sustainable producers. But when we are truly sick, we seek the best and most effective medicine.

In the vineyard, this is reflected in a proactive, minimally invasive strategy.
We use sustainable and organic practices as the foundation of our work – promoting biodiversity, building soil health with cover crops, and relying on natural defense mechanisms.

However, in rare cases of extreme weather conditions or critical disease pressure that threaten the long-term health of our vineyard, we make targeted, minimal interventions. This flexible and holistic approach ensures the health and longevity of our vines, while allowing us the flexibility to protect the environment and our harvest in the most effective way possible.

Concrete actions: PIWI and our internal standards

Our commitment is based on tangible actions that reduce our environmental footprint:

  • Pioneering work with PIWI grapes: We planted PIWI (fungal disease resistant) grape varieties, which are naturally much more resistant to disease, drastically reducing the need for treatment in the vineyard. These varieties represent the future of sustainable viticulture and we are proud to grow them.
  • Our vineyard house only uses rainwater. We are blessed to have an amazing “old-school” cistern with rainwater collection capabilities.
  • We do everything by hand. We do not have a tractor. We mow with a hand-driven mower, and we spray with only backpack sprayers. This keeps the soil from being compacted and minimizes “spray drift”.
  • Our “Made with sustainable practices” label: In the last few years, we have been able to produce wines entirely according to organic methods, including the exclusive use of bio-friendly yeasts and only bio-approved treatments in the vineyard. These wines will clearly state this on the label or website.

The result is not a static certification, but a dynamic, resilient and truly sustainable vineyard, committed to transparency and the constant pursuit of a greener future.
